A Note by André Consciência regarding the kybalion

Many of my colleague magicians dismiss this book as adulterated hermetics. We are, however, entirely aware that The Kybalion is not part of the same time as books such as Corpus Hermeticum and other founding books of the philosophy that came to be known as Hermeticism. We are also aware, fully, that in no way does it need to be in order to present itself as valid hermeticism. More, we dare say this book follows in all ways the method of original hermeticism: it studies the great book of nature and the cosmos, paired with that shining book of the human and the spirit, and it derives from there axiomatic laws, practices and conclusions.
Do we need Hermeticism to be stuck to the equivalent of science in Ancient Greece? Isn’t the Scientia, that knowledge of necessary causes, the same but its discoveries ever new or expanding?
The Kybalion is the actualization of Hermetics, yet its principles remain as old as the universe.
In pair with this modernization of ancient wisdom, I have decided for modernistic illustrations.

“The purpose of this work is not the enunciation of any special philosophy or doctrine, but rather is to give to the students a statement of the Truth that will serve to reconcile the many bits of occult knowledge that they may have acquired, but which are apparently opposed to each other and which often serve to discourage and disgust the beginner in the study. Our intent is not to erect a new Temple of Knowledge, but rather to place in the hands of the student a Master-Key with which he may open the many inner doors in the Temple of Mystery through the main portals he has already entered.” — The Kybalion
